Since I was 14 I have been reading books by Piers Anthony. I own several of his different series and love to read them over and over again. A few weeks ago, I was on the website of a friend and he had a link to Piers Anthony's website. I hadn't given the books or the author much thought lately as life has been hectic. Of course he does live near me here in Florida. Well, as I wandered around his website, I discovered that he was going to be coming to Orlando on May 27th to the OASFIS' Oasis 19 Science fiction convention. So I grabbed my almost 14 year old son and headed to the Sheraton by Sea World. We got there about 2:15 and were about 5th in line to get his autograph. I had grabbed the only hardback book I owned of his, Being a Green Mother from the Incarnations of Immortality series. It turned out to be a first edition to boot. I was also reading Golem in the Gears in paperback at the time and had brought that with as I like to read any time I have more than 30 seconds to look at the pages. It also was a first edition. So Piers very nicely signed both books and I got to take a picture with him.
His wife is the lady behind me, her name is Carol. There were about 40 to 50 other people in line and some had brought quite a few books to be signed. The trick there apparently is to get two books signed, then get back in line and get two more signed and have a couple of friends also stand in line with your books. So next time, if there is one, I may grab a whole series and get them signed (probably not Xanth as it has 27 books and is still growing.) I hope, as I mentioned when I started this blog, to become a writer and Piers Anthony is one of those authors who truly inspires me. Maybe some day, I'll be the one sitting behind the table, with people getting back in line to have more than two of my books signed.
